Tiered Discount Rates

The MA Electric Tiered Discount Rate assists income eligible customers with managing home energy bills by providing a monthly bill discount. The new tiered discounts range from 32%-71%, depending on your income and household size. To be eligible for a discounted rate on energy service, you must be a National Grid customer and receive benefits from a qualifying program or a grant from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

To enroll in the new Tiered Discount Rate:

  1. Apply online at Discount Rate Application - Massachusetts or call 1-800-322-3223 to speak with a customer service representative for a 32% discount (Tier 1) or

  2. To see if you qualify for a larger discount (Tier 2-5), you will need to apply for a LIHEAP grant through a CAP Agency. The agency will verify income and household size and assign you to the appropriate tier. This information will be shared with National Grid through a data-share process and automatically applied to your account. You can apply for LIHEAP online at https://toapply.org/MassLIHEAP or find your local CAP Agency on the MASSCAP website
