About the Project
National Grid is proud to deliver reliable energy to our neighbors in Long Island. The upgrades to our existing Holtsville facility are part of our long-standing commitment to maintain affordable, safe service for our customers.
How we serve our customers:
Our facility in Holtsville has been in operation since 1971, and it now serves approximately 97,000 customers. As Suffolk County grows, so does its need for reliable energy and the existing facility is now relied upon by more customers across the area, requiring upgrades to our infrastructure.
The Holtsville facility stores liquified natural gas, or LNG. LNG is delivered directly to storage facilities allowing for greater diversity in our energy suppliers and stored to be utilized in times of peak demand. By using the tanks on site to store LNG, we can always ensure a suitable supply, maintaining reliable heat for our neighbors in the area on the coldest days of the year.
Project Benefits:
Tank system upgrades are essential to ensure the continued delivery of safe and reliable service from this facility, especially during times of peak demand.
From 2025 to 2027 we plan to make the following upgrades to this facility to improve both the reliability of the system and the safety of both the system and our employees:
- Upgrades to the compressor system
- Power Distribution Center (PDC) upgrade
- Upgrade of existing foundation heating system
- Replacement of tank stairs
These upgrades mean a newer, safer and more reliable facility for our neighbors in Suffolk County, NY. We’re proud to serve Long Island and this upgraded facility means we can continue to do so for decades to come.
